Our Gym Kids class program is driven by the skill progression and
reward system that we call our Can Do program. Our Can Do
program is similar to that used in some karate programs. We have
divided our progression of gymnastics skills into a five color belt
system. As your child passes each of the five levels they will receive a
colored belt indicating their advancement and the level they have
achieved. The belt colors are, starting with level one, green, orange,
red, blue and black. They will get a white belt to wear as they work
on level one. This is an introductory belt and does not indicate a level.
As the students pass their current level of skills on each of the four
gymnastics events, vault, bars, beam and tumbling they will recieve a
colored tag indicationg the event they have passed to apply to their
belt. This will give them a visual means of tracking their progress
toward the next belt level. When a student has earned all four colored
tags for a given level the next level belt will be awarded and the
process will start anew with four colored tags to be earned to get to the
next belt.
Tracking your childs progress can be done online or through the skill
sheets that you can print from our website or pick up at the gym. You
will notice on the skill sheets that each skill is asigned a number.
When your child passes a skill in class they will recieve a sticker
with the corresponding number on it to wear home. You can then
track your students progress by marking the appropriate skill on your
home skill lists. We will also be posting the same skills passed on this
site once per week so tracking can be done either way. Please be
aware that stickers don't always make it all the way home so it might
be a good idea to check the website regularly.
If you have any questions or comments on this program please feel
