Tumble Bears

Our Tumble Bears classes are one hour long and meet once per week.
These classes are scheduled Monday-Thursday starting at either 4:30
or 5:45. Class size is a maximum of 6 students per instructor with only
two classes per time slot.

The goal of this program is to help our students with listening and
socialization skills while working on increasing strength, coordination
and self confidence through the use of gymnastics skills and
equipment that encourage practiccally every movement the body is
capable of.

The learning philosophy of this program is to place the emphasis on
the learning gained while experiencing gymnastics rather than on the
learning of the skills themselves for the sake of skill attainment and
advancement.

Gym Kids

Our Gym Kids classes are one and one half hours long and meet once
per week. If more of a commitment to the sport interests you we can
make arrangements to meet your needs. In this program the emphasis
is placed in skill attainment. This process is guided by our Can Do
skill progression program. This is a five level advancement and
reward system with rewards for many small steps of advancement.
The frequency of the rewards in this program is our plan to encourage
self confidence, and to build a belief in each child, that after receiving
repeated rewards for advancement, they Can Do and accomplish
anything they put their minds to. As our students advance through the
Can Do program we try to place them in class with as many students
of the same or near the same skill level as possible. With the size of
our program and the number of students we have at SGA we are
unable to seperate our classes solely on their level of advancement in
the Can Do program. With the Can Do system our instructors are able
to offer individualized work for each student to meet their needs for
the level they are at. In this program we also encourage the healthy
habit of exercising at home. We do this with our Fit For Life
Homework Exercise Program
. For more information on this program

Competitive Team

Our team program competes under the USA Gymnastics Junior
Olympic program. This program consists of ten levels, with level ten
being the highest. Competition begins at level 4. The first 3 levels of
competition 4, 5 and 6 are called compulsory levels. Each of these
levels has a set of routines made up by the USAG. The gymnasts
compete the routines made up for their level. The next 4 levels are
called optionals. The gymnasts are allowed to make up their own
routines while meeting the set of requirements given for their level of
competition. Advancement through the levels begins at the entry levels,
4 or 5, and is controlled by achieving the advancement score at each
level that is set by USAG.

SGA is the home of the 2005 USAG level 6 South Dakota state
championship team, 2006 USAG level 8 South Dakota state
championship team and SGA is also home of many individual event
state champions at levels 5-8.

The 2006 competition season saw the SGA optional teams come of
age and enter competitive gymnastics on a whole new level. Our
gymnasts stepped up to compete in the national arena by traveling to
Colorado Springs, Colorado; Las Vegas, Nevada; and Lincoln,
Nebraska to compete at invitational meets that hosted gymnastics clubs
from across the Unites States. Not only did they compete in these
invitational meets they were also able to prove themselves as quality
gymnasts bringing home many individual medals and team awards.
Our level 8 team represented South Dakota at the Regional
Championships with all of our gymnasts making the South Dakota
Regional Teams. In 2007 our optional competitors look forward to
broadening their travel to include meets in Missouri, Arizona and
Florida.
